Separation Anxiety

When I started scent work training with Jan, I had no idea how much fun my dog and I would have. Thanks to Jan’s broad knowledge of nose work as well as her extensive background in obedience training, my dog and I were able to successfully master the basics and move to higher level searches. It didn’t take long before
the competition bug bit, and Jan has been skilled at training and encouraging us at each level along the way. Dr Jan made learning fun. She worked with my mom to show me how to improve my manners, to come when called, and to enjoy staying in one place while humans are interacting. She also has the best treats.
Dr. Jan has a broad base of knowledge of the canine brain and the patience to work with dog and human for the best training outcome. Thanks to Dr Jan’s focused work and delicious treats, our energetic Jack Russell Terrier Maisie now enjoys “recall”, staying in place and the many benefits of good citizen behavior, including treats and belly rubs.
My dog Duncan and I have been taking Nosework classes with Jan for some time. One of Jan’s strengths is tailoring the classes to accommodate different levels and needs for the dogs. My dog has a low prey drive and at one point when he seemed to have lost interest in searching, she suggested changing the equipment I was using and also altered the class locations and he completely re-engaged. For the past 18 months his favorite activity is spending an hour on scentwork.
Jan is very good at reading the dogs and has the sense of humor necessary for a trainer. She tailors each search to the individual team’s skill level, while still presenting challenges for dog and handler. My dogs love going to her class.
